Northampton Residence
The owners loved the dramatic views to the west on this narrow, sloping site. Their 3,200 sq.ft. contemporary home required a compact design and orientation to respond to the slope from the street and the spectacular views to the west. The owners wanted a contemporary design that incorporated traditional New England lines. The home features a solar greenhouse accessed from the kitchen, post and beam construction that frames the second-floor staircase, and a sunken living room with a soaring cathedral ceiling and views to the west. An 8-kW solar system provides back up power for the air-source heat pump system.
